The following organizations are dedicated to helping young adults build leadership skills and knowledge that will equip them to participate in social, political, and business institutions with confidence.
Amy Poehler’s Smart Girls
Amy Poehler’s Smart Girls organization is dedicated to helping young people cultivate their authentic selves. The organization emphasizes intelligence and imagination over “fitting in.” They celebrate curiosity over gossip. They are a place where people can truly be their weird and wonderful selves. We are funny first, and informative second, hosting the party you want to attend.
The Civic Imagination Project
The Civic Imagination Project taps the civic imagination (our collective vision for what a better tomorrow might look like) to bridge perceived cultural gaps between diverse communities. The Project builds on eight years of research through Henry Jenkins's Civic Paths’ participation in MacArthur's Research Network on Youth and Participatory Politics, which culminated with the publication of By Any Media Necessary: The New Youth Activism.
The Eileen Fisher Leadership Institute
The Eileen Fisher Leadership Institute brings young people together to explore their passions; learn from pioneers of industry, the arts and beyond; and discover their unique leadership style. Young women of all backgrounds will have access to EFLI's unique leadership education that unlocks their personal potential, transforming them into the leaders we need in our communities, and the world.
The Eleanor Roosevelt Center at Val-Kill
The Eleanor Roosevelt Center at Val-Kill is changing the thoughts and actions of our time by developing transformational leaders empowered for youth. The programs facilitate social justice and humanitarian efforts.
Girls Leadership
Girls Leadership offers workshops for k-12, parents and educators to build life skills. These workshops and programs equip girls with the skills to exercise the power of their voices, build courage and confidence. Videos and bookclubs are available. The organization works with community organizations
Global Girl Media
Global Girl Media empowers young women from under-served communities through digital journalism and media training to bring their powerful perspectives to the global stage.
Harvard Graduate School of Education/Digital Civics Toolkit
The Digital Civics Toolkit is a new classroom resource that can channels youthful passion for digital media into meaningful real-world impact. It offers lesson plans and content for students of all grade levels, so educators can help them productively engage in digital life. It’s meant to encourage students to recognize, take seriously, and act on the civic potential of digital and social media.
Help Her Lead
Help Her Lead is a program of She Should Run. This program is designed to inspire the next generation with the Help Her Lead Course. It includes readings and activities.
Ignite/K-12 Programs
Ignite’s curriculum trains girls and young women to understand how government works, why it matters and how to analyze the policy issues that impact their lives.
Knowledge@Wharton High School
This high school program is a part of the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. It provides high school students and educators around the world with a deeper understanding of business and personal finance, and equips them with the skills to excel in the global marketplace.
National Center For Women and Information Technology
NCWIT equips change leaders for advancing women across the entire computing ecosystem. Inclusion changes what’s possible. Master the skills to lead change and reveal the potential in everyone. Membership levels include academic alliance; affinity alliance; k-12 alliance; workforce alliance. Resources include classroom resources, videos, regional initiatives and more.

REWIRE is a nonprofit publication that serves to inspire curious young adults from all walks of life. Their mission is to deliver smart, original, thought-provoking content that inspires individuals to grow, thrive and build a better world.
Sadie Nash Leadership Project
Sadie Nash Leadership Project promotes leadership and activism among young women. The program is designed to strengthen, empower, and equip young women as agents for change in their lives and in the world. By increasing the participation of women in social, political, and economic decision-making we can redefine the nature of leadership and to promote perspectives and practices that are cooperative, accountable, ethical, and effective.
She Should Run
SheShouldRun has partnered with Barbie to help girls to envision the possibilities of leadership from a young age. SheShouldRun is a nonpartisan nonprofit promoting and encouraging women from all walks of life to run for office.
