Ethnic and Diverse Groups

 When women of diverse cultures experience violence their cultural backgrounds may exhibit additional barriers to seeking help. They should have no barriers to justice, support, or community assistance. The listed organizations offer cultural and language specific resources that will enable the broarder community to stop the cycle of sexual violence.


The Accountability Dialogues

The Accountability Dialogues were designed to elevate and amplify the voices of survivors of domestic violence who had also been harmed by the child welfare system. The Dialogues was organized by Futures Without Violence.

The Alaska Native Women’s Resource Center (AKNWRC)

The Alaska Native Women’s Resource Center (AKNWRC) is dedicated to strengthening local, tribal government responses through community organizing efforts advocating for the safety of women and children in their communities and homes, especially against domestic and sexual abuse.

Through the voices, languages, and teachings of tribes, survivors and advocates, and in partnership with our allies and other stakeholders, the AKNWRC provides a voice at the local, statewide, national and international levels for life‐saving changes needed in laws, policies, and social norms.

Arte Sana

Arte Sana (art heals) is a national Latina-led nonprofit committed to ending sexual violence and other forms of gender-based aggressions. It engages marginalized communities as agents of change. Arte Sana promotes capacity building, awareness, healing, and empowerment through bilingual professional training, community education, and the arts.

Asian Family Support Services of Austin (AFSSA)

Asian Family Support Services of Austin ( AFSSA ) is a nonprofit organization that provides assistance to Asian and other immigrant families dealing with domestic violence, sexual assault and trafficking. Their mission is to promote abuse-free Asian communities through advocacy, support, awareness and access to social services.

Asian Pacific Institute on Gender-Based Violence (APIGBV)

The Asian Pacific Institute on Gender-Based Violence is a national resource center on domestic violence, sexual violence, trafficking, and other forms of gender-based violence in Asian and Pacific Islander communities.

Asian Task Force Against Domestic Violence

Asian Task Force Against Domestic Violence serves Pan-Asian survivors of domestic and intimate partner violence in the New England area. Their mission against violence includes delivery of culturally and linguistically appropriate care that best addresses client needs.

Coalition to Stop Violence Against Native Women (CSVANW)

The mission of CSVANW is to stop violence against Native women and children by advocating for social change their communities. The organization offers training, technical assistance, policy advocacy, native youth clubs.

Cure Violence

Cure Violence stops the spread of violence by using the methods and strategies associated with disease control — detecting and interrupting conflicts, identifying and treating the highest risk individuals, and changing social norms.

Institute of Domestic Violence in the African American Community (IDVAAC)

IDVAAC scholars and practitioners work in the area of violence in the African American community, organize local and national experts to coordinate outreach and assistance, and raise awareness and inform public policy.

Jewish Women International (JWI)

Jewish Women International (JWI) is an organization working to empower women and girls by ensuring and protecting their physical safety and economic security, promoting and celebrating inter-generational leadership, and inspiring civic participation and community engagement.

KAN-WIN

The mission of KAN-WIN is to eradicate all forms of violence against women, including domestic violence and sexual assault, by empowering Asian American survivors and engaging the community through culturally competent services, community education and outreach, and advocacy.

Manavi

With a mission to end all forms of violence against women, Manavi began as an awareness campaign on issues concerning South Asian women. Today it continues to centralize women’s needs and interests in all its organizational decisions and service provisions. Manavi provides a unique blend of culturally specific support services and intervention methods through Western advocacy practices and linguistically traditional techniques.

Mending the Sacred Hoop

Mending the Sacred Hoop works from a social change perspective to end violence against Native women and children while restoring the safety, sovereignty, and sacredness of Native women.

MINNESOTA INDIAN WOMEN’S SEXUAL ASSAULT COALITION (MIWSAC)

The mission of MIWSAC is to strengthen voices through unity and build resources to create awareness and eliminate sexual violence against Indian women and children; to vigorously apply efforts toward influencing social change; and reclaim traditional values that honor the sovereignty of Indian women and children.

The National Indian Country Clearinghouse

The National Indian Country Clearinghouse on sexual assault is the comprehensive source for information on sexual violence in Indian Country. The site includes victim advocacy, trauma and health information, federal legislation, tribal codes and articles by Indian Country experts.

The National Organization of Sisters of Color Ending Sexual Assault (SCESA)

The National Organization of Sisters of Color Ending Sexual Assault (SCESA) is an advocacy organization of Women of Color dedicated to working with our communities to create a just society in which all Women of Color are able to live healthy lives free of violence. Our purpose is to give voice and develop action strategies that incorporate and address the experiences and realities of Women of Color and Communities of Color.

The National Indigenous Women's Resource Center, Inc. (NIWRC)

The National Indigenous Women's Resource Center, Inc. (NIWRC) is a Native nonprofit organization that was created specifically to serve as the National Indian Resource Center (NIRC) by addressing domestic violence and safety for Indian women. Under this grant project and in compliance with statutory requirements, the NIWRC will seek to enhance the capacity of American Indian and Alaska Native (Native) tribes, Native Hawaiians, and Tribal and Native Hawaiian organizations to respond to domestic violence.

National Latin@ Network for Healthy Families and Communities

The National Latin@ Network for Healthy Families and Communities is a project of Casa de Esperanza that builds bridges and connections among research, practice and policy to advance effective responses to eliminate domestic violence and to promote healthy relationships within Latino families and communities.

National Organization of Asians and Pacific Islanders (NAPIESV)

NAPIESV is a national organization established by Asian and Pacific Islander anti-sexual assault advocates to give voice to the experiences of Asian and Pacific Islander women and girls who are victims of sexual assault. NAPIESV’s goal is to provide technical assistance to culturally and linguistically specific organizations that are currently serving or attempting to serve victims of sexual assault in Asians and Pacific Islander communities.

NATIONAL ORGANIZATION OF SISTERS OF COLOR ENDING SEXUAL ASSAULT (NSeca)

This team has extensive experience working with culturally-specific organizations and building capacity. They support culturally relevant responses to addressing sexual assault and helping to provide training and technical assistance at the national, state, territorial and local community.

Tribal Court Clearinghouse

The Tribal Court Clearinghouse includes The Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), Tribal Domestic Violence Court-Docket Fact Sheet, Tribal Law and Policy Institute (TLPI) links for publications, websites, Native Law blogs, and legislation.

UJIMA - The National Center on Violence Against Women in the Black Community

The mission of the National Center on Violence Against Women in the Black Community is to mobilize the community to respond to and end domestic, sexual and community violence in the Black community. We actualize this mission through research, public awareness and community engagement, and resource development.

Urban Indian Health Institute

The Urban Indian Health Institute provides research and data for urban American Indian and Alaska Native communities. The organization promotes urban Indian health nationwide, offers training and developed information regarding a variety of health topics.

Women of Color Network, Inc.

WOCINC is a national grassroots initiative dedicated to building the capacity of women of color advocates responding to violence against women of color. They work in and beyond domestic violence to address a broad range of violence including trafficking, police brutality and over incarceration. They offer training and public policy initiatives.
